Master’s degree in Information Technology/Computer Programming or related field or master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Information Technology/Computer Programming or related field from an accredited institution, required

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Community College teaching experience, preferred
  2. Gaming development experience, preferred

Position Description

The purpose of this position is to provide high school students at Polk County High School the opportunity to earn the Information Technology Game Programming certificate. This position requires face to face instruction 5 days a week at Polk County High School. Adjunct faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing high quality learning experience for all Isothermal Community College students. Adjunct faculty report to a dean or director and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Category I:   Facilitating Student Learning

  1. Instruction
  1. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for the delivery of course content for all courses he/she is assigned.
  2. Course development may be required and/or permitted dependent on the needs of the department.
  3. The adjunct faculty member will make available and review up-to-date course syllabus.
  4. The adjunct faculty member will utilize active learning methods and use a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course.  Such activities can include, but are not limited to:
    1. Cooperative learning
    2. Experiential learning
    3. Writing for learning
    4. Critical thinking
  5. The adjunct faculty member may be required to participate in the assessment efforts of the department.
  1. Instructional Support
    1. In situations where there is not a standard course syllabus, the adjunct faculty member will prepare for each course assigned a course syllabus utilizing the standard course template that outlines clear and reasonable learning outcomes and expectations and which reflects the college general competencies.
    2. The adjunct faculty member will use the course description set forth in the common course library when developing or assessing learning objectives.
    3. The adjunct faculty member will, when developing or assessing course objectives, appropriately integrate:
    1. Activities to enable students to achieve program competencies and student learning outcomes
    2. Advisory committee recommendations
    3. Workplace and career needs
  1. The adjunct faculty member will work with departmental personnel to ensure all materials and equipment are available to meet course objectives in a timely manner.
  2. The adjunct faculty member will be available for assisting students in achieving their learning goals.
  3. The adjunct faculty member will be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including but not limited to:
    • census documentation
    • enrollment verification
    • attendance records
    • final grade reports with supporting documentation.
  4. The adjunct faculty member will be supportive of students’ learning goals by:
  1. Focusing on student learning outcomes
  2. Considering the needs and abilities of the students
  3. Becoming familiar with the college’s academic and learning support services
  4. Making reasonable provisions to accommodate individual learning needs
  5. Enforcing the academic integrity policy of the college.

 

Category II:   Professional Development

  1. The adjunct faculty member will remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in his/her professional content area(s).
  2. The adjunct faculty member will show evidence of utilizing current assessment practices.
  3. The adjunct faculty member will complete training on college technology such as Patriot Port, email and program specific software.
  4. The adjunct faculty member will be aware of the Family Education Rights and Privacy

Act (FERPA) privacy requirements when disseminating student information. (Policy 601-02-07AP)

 

Category III.  Interpersonal Skills

  1. The adjunct faculty member will consistently interact with students, peers, and administrative and support staff in a timely, flexible, fair and professional manner. This may be evidenced by but not limited to:
  • Receptiveness to input from others
  • Positive feedback to others
  • Constructive work relationships
  • Solicitation of ideas
  • Responsiveness to the ideas and concerns expressed by others
  1. The adjunct faculty member will express needs, problems, and ideas through professional appropriate communication.
