Blue Ridge Community College is currently seeking applications for an Adjunct Instructor- Networking for Industry. The primary purpose of this position is to develop course content and to provide high-quality, in-person instruction for the Network for Industry course. The course objectives include, but are not limited to: understanding the fundamentals of packet-switched network design, configure a basic local area network to allow computers and industry equipment (e.g. PLC’s) to communicate, troubleshooting common network connectivity issues.

This course will include both online content and in-person instruction and a variety of instructor-led hands-on labs.

Classes may include curriculum, continuing education, workforce training, or other courses, and may be scheduled during the day, evening, weekend, face-to-face, online, or combination.

Education: Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field required.

Preferred-Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.

Experience: Documented practical (hands-on) industry experience and strong knowledge of Internet Protocol, network firewalls, and related network technologies. The ability to use the Siemens TIA portal or similar industry equipment is preferred. The ability to use Learning Management Software (LMS) would be beneficial. All applicants must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting OR demonstrated instructional/teaching environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The selected faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365 or similar products, database systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), College email, Google calendar, Google drive and documents, College website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
