Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate Degree preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. Candidates must be available to teach daytime, some evenings, and weekends. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others. The candidate must meet the North Carolina State CDL qualifications and have a minimum of two years prior experience operating a Class A vehicle and hold a valid Class A North Carolina Driver’s License. Qualifications, as defined by NC DOT: Have not been convicted of a felony or convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude in the ten years immediately preceding the date of application, not had a revocation or suspension of driver’s license in the two years immediately preceding the date of application, not have had convictions for moving violations totaling seven or more cumulative points within three years of the date of application.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching adults and one to three years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is preferred. Bilingual, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Examiner Certification, and a Silver National Career Readiness Certificate or above are preferred.

Position Description

The Instructor will provide training in pre-trip inspection, truck driving training yard exercises, over-the-road, and safety; use innovative instructional strategies and new technology appropriate for courses and learners; use methods of evaluation that measure students’ attainment of stated competencies. Maintain a safe and orderly instructional environment in class, lab, shop, and/or clinical settings. Model professional behaviors in the classroom, on campus, and in the community. Must follow all state and federal guidelines. Assist in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, current technology, audio-visual aids, equipment, textbooks, and library holdings. Assist with the recruitment of students and respond to inquiries about the program. Maintain office hours. Operate and maintain lab equipment and assure equipment is operating in a safe and reliable manner. Submit reports in an accurate and timely manner as required. Maintain academic, attendance, and student records in accordance with the Continuing Education Instructor Handbook and the North Carolina Community College System. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Workforce Programs and the Vice President of Workforce Continuing Education and Community Engagement. 
 
If selected for employment, a current NC Department of Transportation medical card along with a copy of your driving record is required and the applicant must submit to a criminal background check and drug screening.
