Blue Ridge Community College is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant provides secretarial and administrative support to the Chief of Police and the Director of Facilities and Plant Operations as their duties relate to the function and mission of the Division of General Administration. Job duties include supporting the day-to-day operations of the Police Department and Facilities. Serves as the first point of contact for all matters related to the Police Department, Facilities, Grounds, Maintenance, Plant Operations, and Custodial and communicates necessary information to the appropriate staff in the department.
Education: Associates degree in office systems technology or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of proven experience. Experience as a law enforcement telecommunicator/dispatcher preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good working knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to work multiple tasks with minimum supervision and instruction as required. Strong multi-tasking abilities and strong customer service skills.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, College email and website, web-based computer applications associated with the position. Ability to type 35 WPM. Ability to multi-task and work quickly under pressure. Creativity and resourcefulness in accomplishing new tasks. Must possess the ability to activate and use the emergency notification systems, radio and phone communications, and computer systems. No criminal convictions (excluding minor traffic offenses). Ability to qualify for use of NCAware, CJLeads, & DCI.
Ability to communicate and work harmoniously with the supervisor, faculty, staff, students, the general public, and emergency responders. Ability to handle stressful situations and remain focused under stress, the ability to act in a decisive manner, using good judgment.
One year of experience in communications systems involving telephone, 2-way radio, and computer display terminals.
Administrative details such as gathering data and preparing reports; generates and maintains budget records and reports; reviews existing administrative procedures in the area of assignment and initiates or recommends improvements.
Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting.
Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
