Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Customer service skills sufficient to meet the VGCC Vanguard Vision commitment and service standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form
  • Experience in providing support services to individuals from traditionally underserved groups

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to three years of administrative assistant experience
  • Experience working at a community college
  • Experience working with community college system (Datatel/Colleague)

Position Description

In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Academic Administrative Assistant for the School of Business, Technologies, and Public Services reports to the Academic Dean of the school. The position is responsible for clerical and administrative support in the day-to-day operations for the efficient operation of the School of Business, Technologies, and Public Services.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist academic dean with daily functioning of the school including but not limited to:
    • Maintain and record minutes for meetings
    • Maintain/update all information posted on share drive
    • Submit e-pro orders for equipment and supplies 
    • Collect personal leave reports and check for accuracy
    • Post syllabi to share drive
    • Input curriculum semester schedules 
    • Pull reports and data from R25 and informer
    • Create spreadsheets, surveys, and other documents
    • Pick-up and distribute the school’s mail        
    • Help with the administration of faculty evaluations by students and provide copies to the appropriate academic dean for filing
  • Serve on committees as members and provide administrative support for committees when necessary.
  • Assist students as needs arise.
  • Assist other staff and faculty
  • Engage in professional development
  • Assume other administrative duties as assigned by the Dean of Business, Technologies, and Public Services.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
