Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 1-2 years English Language Learner  (ELL) teaching experience.  
  • Experience teaching courses online, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language OR TESOL Certificate
  • Experience with Blackboard LMS.
  • Experience teaching Adult ESL at Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II funded programs

Full-time faculty at Central Carolina Community College facilitate transformative lifelong learning by incorporating discipline-specific learning outcomes through active learning opportunities, lectures, hands-on skill development, assignments, appropriate classroom management, etc. Faculty provide authentic student assessment that allows students to improve their knowledge and skills with each assignment. Faculty focus on student success by establishing meaningful connections with students early in the semester to support the varying needs of each student throughout the semester.

The College and Career Readiness Department at Central Carolina Community College offers  literacy education programs including Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Secondary Education (ASE). Courses are taught through different delivery methods including face to face instruction, online, and hybrid options.

Essential Duties

 

Teaching Responsibilities:

  1. Embrace the institutional goals of Central Carolina Community College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers to student progression in courses, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational and career goals.  
  2. The Adult ESL teacher provides instruction to Adult English Language Learners in the College and Career Readiness Department.
  3. Use student learning outcomes to create a variety of activities, assignments, and assessments that ensure curriculum goals will be met. 
  4. Create a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experience for all students.
  5. Incorporate technology and contextualized learning in lesson plans. 
  6. Provide personalized and constructive feedback on student assignments by recognizing what students did well and identifying attainable improvements for future work.
  7. Respond to all student communication within two business days.
  8. Report attendance daily.
  9. Faculty keep a weekly schedule of 35 hours on campus, including 5 required office hours. Hours on site may be adjusted based on distance education responsibilities and/or approved telework arrangements.
  10. Assume other duties as assigned.
  11. Actively support the college’s vision of exceptional learning for all.

Lead Instructor Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the leading resource for the curriculum.
  2. Take initiative in the recruiting of students.
  3. Lead the annual program review of the program.
  4. Assist with general responsibilities related to adjunct recruitment, and hiring, and 
  5. Recommend appropriate and current equipment, perform equipment inventories, maintain equipment in good working condition, and take necessary steps to ensure student safety around equipment.

Institutional Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in activities required to maintain program and/or college accreditation standards.
  2. Serve on college committees as appointed.
  3. Attend advisory board meetings as requested by your supervisor.
  4. Attend graduation ceremonies.
  5. Engage in a minimum of 5 hours of professional development each year.
  6. Maintain current knowledge of your discipline and renew industry credentials, as needed.
  7. Attend departmental, divisional, and collegewide meetings.
  8. Cultivate a culture of care and advocacy through compassion, inclusion, opportunity, integrity, courage, and people.
  9.
