Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services, business, engineering or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Two years’ experience working with middle, high school, and/or college students OR two years of work experience in a manufacturing, distribution or related field
  3. Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an educational setting: plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality.
  4. Ability to travel to off-site campuses
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
  6. Ability to carry out institutional effectiveness activities and participate in the life of the college (i.e. serve on committees, advise, participate in activities).
  7. Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
  8. Willingness to conduct activities related to outreach and articulation from/to public schools and universities.
  9. Willingness to work day, evening, weekends, and at unconventional times

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in business, counseling, marketing, education, business, engineering, or a related field
  2. More than two years of work experience in manufacturing, distribution or a related field
  3. Experience in a middle, secondary and/or post-secondary educational institution in the areas of admissions, assessment, and/or advisement
  4. Three years’ experience in middle, high school or post-secondary education

 

Position Description

The Advanced Manufacturing Career Coach will report to the Director of Student Services.  The Career Coach will travel to area high schools and is responsible for helping high school and college students interested in Advanced Manufacturing define their career aspirations and identifying community college programs and/or training to meet those aspirations and achieve their educational and career goals.  The Career Coach will assist students in making informed decisions regarding career and educational plans in preparation for success in post-secondary education and training.  The Advanced Manufacturing Career Coach works cooperatively with SCC faculty and staff in the following areas:

  • Monitor the Advanced Manufacturing pathways and students on the pathways from enrollment to employment. 
  • Assist in development and continuous improvement of the Advanced Manufacturing pathway and related pathways.
  • Provide career exploration, planning, and development guidance and college advisement to high school students in the area of Advanced Manufacturing
  • Maintain quality partnerships with secondary school personnel, by collaborating with high school counselors and Career and Technical Education Coordinators (CTE) to promote CTE degree options/careers and develop Career Development Plans
  • Engage students, counselors, faculty, parents, and all other stakeholders with information sessions related to college opportunities; participate in school-related activities in which SCC and articulated credit can be promoted (Parent Nights, grade-level meetings, etc.)
  • Maintain current knowledge of enrollment matters for traditional and non-traditional students, as well as College and Career Promise students and Early College High School students
  • Conduct coaching sessions with students
  • Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist students as they move along an advanced manufacturing pathway
  • Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in college courses; providing academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition, foster progression, and promote completion of credentials
  • Monitor student progress in high school/college classes and work with students, parents/guardians, and instructors to develop plans for success, i.e., track attendance, academic progress, Aviso early warning
  • Conduct orientations for SCC Advanced Manufacturing students at the beginning of each semester
  • Maintain quality partnerships with local business and industry leaders to promote career readiness among students and develop career exploration opportunities (job-shadowing, internships, industry tours, etc.)\
  • Coordinate Advanced Manufacturing Career Fairs for students in the pathways
  • Provide assistance to students during their transition from secondary to postsecondary institutions
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Student Services to execute initiatives in assigned high schools
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities, as recommended by the Director of Student Services
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Service
