Position Description

Job Summary

This position greets faculty, staff, students, and visitors; directing in-person and telephone inquiries to the appropriate Student Services or College staff member. The Student Service Generalist will respond to general questions about the College’s academic programs, and the enrollment processes. This person provides administrative support to the Advising Department and Student Services Reception.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure the Admissions and Advising suite’s reception area is welcoming, organized, and stocked with current forms and documents.
Attend the Admissions and Advising suite’s reception desk as needed, answering and triaging telephone calls, making copies, directing traffic, etc.
Provide students with status updates regarding their enrollment, registration, and next steps.
Assist new, incoming students with using and navigating Self-Service and other student accounts.
Respond to all Advising calls, voicemails and emails.
Data entry and documentation in students’ records, utilizing the College’s CIS system and other technologies.
Informer reporting to track and support incoming students’ progress through enrollment.
Assignment of new advisees to professional academic advisors, including numerical, alphabetic, and program management of caseloads.
Support supervision and training of FWS students and new employees.
Maintain new advisee folders.

Related Responsibilities:

Provide accurate information regarding the College’s procedures.
Monitor level of Advising supplies and submit purchase orders as approved by Director of Advising.
Provide general information on each area in Student Services.
Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance and develop skills.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements

Computer literacy and specific proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a congenial and professional manner with students, faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Understanding of and commitment to open-access community college philosophy and diversity issues.

Surroundings/Environment:
Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements, with moderate noise.

Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the office, operate and position computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds.

Scheduling:
This is a part-time position, working between 20-25 hours a week. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Tuesdays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Part-time staff are expected to work in timeframes needed for the position. Must be available to work flexible work hours, as coverage requires and to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, during peak enrollment periods.

Travel:
Local travel is required, including between campus locations.
