Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be knowledgeable of issues and practices in the field
Must possess sensitivity to and respect for cultural differences
Must be familiar with best practices of English language acquisition
Good organizational skills
Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
Proficient with MS Office products including MS Word and Excel
Excellent interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to complete paperwork and meet deadlines
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Advising, teaching and/or counseling experience with culturally diverse, adult populations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience advising in a community college setting
Position Description
This position provides advising and other support services to College and Career Readiness students.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):
*Provides advising by assisting students in setting, working towards and achieving academic and career goals
*Initiates student contact and maintains communication with individuals and small groups of students to support goals and retention in program
*Assesses student needs to develop a comprehensive advising/academic plan.
Collaborates with instructors and Instructional Program Specialists to identify students who need advising services
Provides general information to students regarding English language acquisition, high school equivalency and college programs, including available support, services, and community resources, as appropriate
Supports and tracks students as they move through CCR, into Workforce Continuing Education, Curriculum, and other programs, to ensure a successful transition
Tracks and documents student goals and testing progress in a timely, detailed, and organized fashion
Supports Instructional Program Specialists, faculty, and staff during new student registrations.
Participates in trainings and professional development in order to be familiar with current trends in advising
Submits periodic reports, as needed
