Minimum Qualifications

The Air Conditioning, Heating (HVAC) and Refrigeration Instructor is required to have a diploma in Heating and Refrigeration or a related field. Candidate must be a dependable, dedicated professional and highly motivated self-starter with an Environmental Protection Agency’s 608 Certificate.  Good oral and written communication skills and proficiency with computer software are required. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a good driving record sufficient to be insured under the Wayne Community College auto insurance policy is required. The candidate must have a high energy level and professional presence to develop quick rapport with faculty, employers, and students and will act as liaison between the college and local industry. 

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with three to five years of practical work experience in the HVAC industry; residential, commercial and industrial experience; and equivalent combination teaching experience are preferred. Bilingual is preferred.

Position Description

Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration and other related areas which could include day and evening classes.  The Instructor will design and implement learning strategies for students; develop course syllabi and instructional materials; maintain instructional records and student evaluations; and develop and evaluate courses, and programs.  Other duties will include public relations, recruiting for the Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration Technology program and other programs within the Industrial Technologies Department, and Applied Technologies Division. Duties will include advising students; working with faculty and staff; participating in departmental and other college meetings; and serving on various committees. The HVAC and Refrigeration Instructor will coordinate the curriculum through interaction with the program advisory committee and employers; supervise students in cooperative education; assist graduates with job referral; and represent the college with educational agencies and the community at large.  The Instructor will work with other departmental faculty to encourage the student’s participation in Wayne Community College’s Skills USA (VICA) chapter; and perform all other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean.
