Minimum Qualifications

The Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to sustain teaching performance at appropriate levels for all assigned student populations (including qualified high school students) to include teaching college classes on the high school campuses, course loads, instructional technology, instructional materials and innovative communication delivery in the Interpreter Education and Sign Language related disciplines.

9, 10 & 11 Month employees will have their pay spread over a 12-month period

What You'll be Doing

  • Perform record keeping function in the areas of attendance, student performance, assessment and data collection in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Student advisement in the areas of academic planning and learning support.
  • Maintain mastery/currency and accreditation/credentials in the fields of Interpreter Education and Sign Language disciplines.
  • Market, recruit and retain students in respective Interpreter Education programs and the College as a whole.
  • Ensure compliance with policies of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additionally

  • Participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular committees and campus support functions, scholarships, grants, campus marketing, student club advisement, accreditation, inter-institutional and system cooperative programs.
  • Program planning, annual program reporting data and support of Institutional Effectiveness/ Program Assessment plan.
  • Support program by developing and maintaining an advisory board.
  • Manage budget and curriculum scheduling for the program.
  • Availability for occasional night and weekend assignments
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Required: 18 hours of graduate work in ASL or Deaf Studies or a Master’s degree in any field with current certification of eligibility to earn certification (ASLTA, RID or equivalent); Preferred: Master’s degree in ASL or Deaf Studies; native or near-native fluency in ASL.  Experience Must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a work-place setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment. Skills and the Know-How Current knowledge of ASL and Interpreter Education and related fields. Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective communication skills, and a commitment to safety.  Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
