Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of master’s degree in American Sign Language, Sign Language Linguistics, Deaf Studies or a master's degree in a closely related field with 18 graduate hours in ASL studies required.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in higher education preferred. ASLTA Certification at the Professional Level or a Deaf Interpreter certification from RID preferred.
Position Description
Under the direction of the Dean of College Transfer & Public Services, serves as an instructor in the Interpreter Education program and serves as an advisor to students. This is a 9-month contract position.
Develops course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans for curriculum courses assigned. Teach assigned online, day, and/or evening classes. Reviews and selects appropriate textbooks and instructional materials and media for the classes to be taught. Develops lectures, classroom activities, laboratory, hands-on exercises, and/or actual work site exercises for students to participate and learn. Monitors and records student progress in courses. Administers tests or other evaluation methods to students; grades and gives feedback on exercises, homework assignments, and tests. Keeps records of student attendance. Serves as advisor to assigned students. Coordinates efforts with the Director of Admissions/Registration or Student Services if there are problems or questions. Assists with registration processes. Participates in curriculum reviews for improvement and changes in courses. Makes continuous contacts in the assigned field to explain courses and curriculums taught at the College. Provides input into needed materials, supplies, and other classroom needs. Serves on institutional committees if assigned. Develops a professional development plan each year. Assists part-time faculty teaching in the same curriculum. Performs other duties as assigned.
