Minimum Qualifications

  1. An associate’s or higher-level degree from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Two or more years of experience in a finance, education office or related experience is required.
  3. Working knowledge and experience in computer database applications including
  4. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is required
  5. Ability to develop presentations and marketing materials using software such as PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.
  6. Ability to recruit volunteers, preferably individuals aged 55 and older.
  7. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  8. Ability to speak well in public and represent the RSVP program in community meetings.
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  10. Ability to plan and organize.
  11. Ability to coordinate with agencies and other SCC programs.
  12. Ability to use multiple forms of media and marketing tools to recruit new volunteers and/or promote RSVP.
  13. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of community service organizations and agencies.
  14. Ability to plan, develop, and implement an on-going program of public relations.
  15. Willingness to work occasional irregular hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associates degree or three years of experience in a professional/business environment
  2. Knowledge of the operations and services of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
  3. Experience as a volunteer.
  4. Previous experience working with older people and/or managing volunteers preferred.
  5. A special appreciation for the talents, gifts, and needs of older adults.
  6. Openness to work with persons of diverse cultures, physically challenged, and older adults.

Position Description

To provide county residents, students, faculty, and staff meaningful volunteer opportunities to share their knowledge, experiences, abilities, and skills while improving their communities.

Essential Duties:

  1. Recruit individuals interested in enhancing their community through volunteer service.
  2. Speak well in public and represent the RSVP program in community meetings.
  3. Work well with a diverse population (culture, race, age, educational achievement, disabilities, etc.)
  4. Recruits new volunteers age 55 and over to fill specific requests from nonprofit agencies in the community. Recruitment includes the completion of the paperwork.
  5. Interviews potential volunteers regarding their interests and skills and match them with appropriate volunteer assignments.
  6. Answers and handles incoming telephone calls.
  7. Types reports, memoranda, travel forms, requisitions, letters, forms and correspondence.
  8. Assists with volunteer recognition events and activities (planning, preparing, setup, cleanup, etc).
  9. Contributes to the bimonthly newsletter.
  10. Develops and distributes recruitment material, flyers, etc.
  11. Speaks to community groups and organizations about volunteering and the role of RSVP.
  12. Attends community activities.
  13. Makes public presentations.
  14. Support and train station supervisors.
  15. Assist in preparation of reports and annual goals for success of program.
  16. Participate with other agencies as appropriate to organize events that benefit the volunteers, volunteer stations, or older adults in general.
  17. Accurately take requests for volunteer assignments, make contact with volunteers by telephone and make volunteer assignments in a professional and impartial manner.
  18. Maintains program quality by assisting the Director in planning program goals and objectives to meet critical community needs.
  19. Relates all problem areas of the program to the Director.
  20. Other duties as assigned by the RSVP Director or the Vice President of Student Development Services.
