Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Master's degree in the Natural Sciences
Knowledge and Skills:

  • Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility.
  • Demonstration of skills in the areas of: communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others; 
  • and demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment

Specialized experience (commercial industry preferred):

  • growout production of aquatic animals
  • water quality testing
  • collection and identification of marine organisms
  • installation and maintenance of aquaculture systems and equipment
  • aquatic animal health assessment and management
  • breeding and larval rearing of marine and freshwater fish and invertebrates
  • aquaculture business development and planning
  • community college teaching experience with diverse student body including dual-enrolled high school students
  • experience using Moodle LMS and Colleague Self-Service

Physical Demands:    Aquaculture is a physically demanding program. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Be able to negotiate uneven footing in aquatic environments

Position Description

Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for a full-time Aquaculture Instructor in our Aquaculture Technology program.    This instructor position is a 10 month faculty position, grant funded for 3 years, benefit eligible.    The instructor will teach Aquaculture courses within the Carteret County service area including Croatan High School and East Carteret High School.  

Pay Level:  Minimum hiring monthly salary is $4,710. per month (Master's degree level)

An Aquaculture instructor will conduct college courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Teach courses assigned by the department chair and approved by the division dean.
  • Design and implement instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers approved student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain and submit all required college records including attendance and grade reports, etc. 
  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
  • Measure and report required student learning outcomes
  • Assist students in receiving needed instructional resources

 
Curriculum Development:

  • Maintain, review, and update course content, learning outcomes, and course syllabi 
  • Recommend course textbooks, supplies, equipment, and equipment repairs
  • Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the course(s) in the area of expertise.
  • Utilize student learning outcomes assessment results to improve courses/program

 
Professional Development:

  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
  • Keep abreast of current technology.

 
Institutional Service:

  • Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.

 
Community Relations:

  • Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable.
  • Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department
