Expected Work Hours

Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants must be willing to cover nights and weekends in case of staff vacations, sicknesses, or vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA)
  • (1) year of professional experience working in an archive
  • (2) years of experience as a professional librarian.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival standards, preservation principles and practices, and records management principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of archival theory, methodology, issues, and trends.
  • Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories (ArchiveSpace, ContentDM, MDID, Omeka, Digital Commons, DSpace, Fedora, etc.).
  • Knowledge of standard archival policies and procedures for use, access, and preservation.
  • Knowledge of archival descriptive standards, especially DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core.
  • Knowledge of archival reference tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge of records management issues and practices.
  • Demonstrates competencies in using computers, office applications, and library and archives-related software.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina Community College System processes is preferred.

Position Description

The Archive Services Librarian is responsible for developing, managing, and administering the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Archives. The Archive Services Librarian also focuses on creating, maintaining, and enriching metadata representing the library’s physical and digital archive collections.

This position spends approximately 50% of its time on archival duties and 50% on reference and instruction duties. All Rowan-Cabarrus Librarians have public service responsibilities regardless of their position within Library Services, including circulation, reference, instruction, and liaison responsibilities. Working collaboratively and independently in a team environment is essential in this role. Librarians also participate in college and professional activities, as appropriate.
