Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field with three years of accounting or finance experience is required. Must have experience with Microsoft products, including Word and Excel and have strong communication skills. Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy are imperative. Must have an in-depth understanding of coding expenses and preparing journal entries. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a driving records that is insurable under the Wayne Community College auto insurance policy is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in the North Carolina Community College System and with Colleague Enterprise Resource Program is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual are preferred. 

Position Description

The Assistant Controller will provide support to the Controller by assisting with monthly State, County & Institutional reports; reconciling bank statements and completing the escheat process associated with stale dated checks. Duties include assisting the Controller with internal audit functions; IRS regulatory reporting requirements; and financial aid refunds and returns. The Assistant Controller will assist with the preparation of the college’s annual financial statements and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This position will serve as a primary backup to payroll. The Candidate will work closely with other members of the Business Office and will perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Services or the Controller to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
