OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of the Academic Support Center assists in the delivery of academic support initiatives and activities designed to increase persistence, completion and graduation rates of students. This position will assist in the coordination and evaluation of tutoring services and support initiatives developed within the department. The Assistant Director will work directly with faculty and staff across the campus to develop and implement tutor programming and evaluate Academic Support Center services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Selects, supervises, trains, motivates and evaluates peer and professional tutors
  • Assists the Director of the Academic Support Center in the development and updating of tutor training
  • Develops and facilitates curriculum related to student success behaviors
  • Maintains the schedule for peer and professional tutoring services
  • Creates and manages tutoring schedules according to students’ support needs 
  • Oversees and facilitates the delivery and data collection of surveys and evaluations pertaining to tutoring services 
  • Maintains accurate contact summaries in the AVISO and TutorTrac databases
  • Assists in the development and delivery of support/personal development activities and workshops
  • Conducts follow-ups with students receiving tutoring services  
  • Monitors the collection of tutoring referrals and ensures compliance with auditing requirements
  • Coordinates and provides individualized interventions for students in need
  • Facilitates and manages the delivery of the “Don’t Cancel Class” programming   
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data related to tutoring services and makes programmatic adjustments in coordination with the Director when necessary 
  • Works collaboratively with federally grant funded program staff to provide tutoring services
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned 
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values, and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Experience in the North Carolina Community College System and support services.
