Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s Degree OR a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, concepts, and teaching methodology.
• Two (2) years’ experience providing direct professional tutoring services or developing and implementing instructional support related programming in an educational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Education, Developmental Education, Adult Education, or a related field.
• Two years of experience supervising faculty and/or instructional program staff in a variety of academic and program areas.
• Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of instructional techniques and methods, including web-based learning resources.
• Experience implementing technologies used to deliver and manage tutoring and instructional support.
• Teaching experience.
• Experience working in a postsecondary setting.
Position Description
Job Description
The Assistant Director of Academic Support Services is a full-time, 12-month position serving locations within Anson and Union Counties, as well as virtually. Under the direction of the Learning Commons Director, the Assistant Director of Academic Support Services is responsible for ushering in comprehensive virtual and on-site instructional support, providing training and supervision of tutoring staff, and overseeing daily operations of the Academic Support Centers and related services.
The Assistant Director of Academic Support Services will evaluate tutoring and other instructional support programming that is provided to students and faculty, and monitor student outcomes to implement individual interventions to improve student success. This position will work collaboratively with Academic Support Center tutors, faculty, department chairs, and deans to provide services and instructional support aimed at increasing retention and completion rates.
This position requires a high degree of attention to detail, patience, strong communication skills and the ability to multitask and work in an environment with many distractions.
Job Duties
• Connect learners to appropriate resources and provide support for and coordination of daily operations of Academic Support Centers and related services, including answering calls and fielding them accordingly, addressing visitor questions and needs, and providing an overall welcoming environment.
• Coordinate with faculty and staff to provide and support innovative programs that help students succeed.
• Prepare, organize and disseminate tutoring schedules.
• Design and implement evaluation tools to assess Academic Support Center usage and student benefits; prepare reports and statistics documenting program usage.
• Select, supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate part-time professional and peer tutors within the Academic Support Centers.
• Utilize the institution’s early alert system to ensure the most at-risk students are receiving appropriate instructional support interventions.
• Work collaboratively with faculty to develop content specific programming and support materials.
• Ensure compliance with auditing requirements including referrals and FTE reports
• Develop, implement, and oversee an embedded tutoring model; lead professional and peer tutors in the development and implementation of specialized supplemental instruction programming.
