Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in counseling, education, human services, social work or related field, and at least four (4) years of related human services experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

At least two years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in career development and career assessments.

Position Description

The Assistant Director of Career and Academic Advising must be a collaborative leader, working diligently in a team-oriented, student-centric environment to provide exceptional student services to meet enrollment goals while embracing the mission and values of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
 

The Assistant Director will work under the supervision of the Director of Enrollment, Recruitment & Retention. The Assistant Director will supervise an assigned advising staff at a campus location. The assistant director will manage a student caseload of advisees and coordinate adequate staffing for day-to-day campus operations and special events; participate in the development and instruction of ongoing training needs; monitor staff technology and access needs; coordinate an advising communications plan to students, and conduct employee performance evaluations. This position will also coordinate health admissions processes in accordance with college procedures.
 

This class is the third of four levels in the Student Services series. Incumbents support students in their educational efforts by providing career and academic advising. Responsibilities include maintaining a caseload of students; determining student eligibility for services and admissions; locating social services or academic resources for students; presenting workshops or coursework in the student success and study skills course; maintaining student records, and monitoring student persistence.
