Minimum Qualifications

Requirements:

Master's degree in Disabilities, Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Assistive Technology, or a related field

Requires a minimum of two years experience working with high school and/or college students with disabilities

Supervisory experience 

Working knowledge of various disabilities and the impact the disability will have on the students' academic performance. 

Experience interpreting medical documentation required for the determination of accommodations
 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferences:

Two years supervisory experience

Experience working with students with disabilities in a post-secondary academic environment 
 

Position Description

Job Summary:

This position serves as the primary contact for Disability Support Services (DSS) for students, parents, faculty and staff. 

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

*Assists the director with the development and implementation of institutional effectiveness goals

*Provides direct supervision for Learning Disability Specialists, DSS Coordinators, and DSS support personnel

*Serves as first point of contact for inquiries from students, parents, faculty and staff

*Reviews incoming student documentation for completeness based on departmental guidelines by disability and communicates with students and/or parents concerning any additional disability documentation required for students to receive DSS services

*Acts as an advocate for student needs with faculty and staff when necessary; promotes positive student self-advocacy skills

Assigns incoming students to DSS Coordinators based on disability documentation 

Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art technology, techniques, laws, services, and philosophy relevant to disability areas

Leads DSS orientation workshops 

Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and staff, and serves on various college committees

Performs the duties of a DSS Coordinator when needed 

Schedules study session appointments and ensures enforcement of appointment policy

Assists students in requesting and arranging instructional, technical, facility, and staff assigned accommodations

Develops and implements workshops that will educate students, faculty, and staff regarding disability issues

Completes annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of disability laws as they pertain to higher education and students with disabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act

Knowledge of various disability types and be aware of the manifestations of the disability and the accommodations that would be reasonable and appropriate

Effective leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills

Demonstrates excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

Must possess effective advocacy skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office products

Must work harmoniously with staff, faculty, and general public

Ability to read and interpret student disability documentation, including psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations
