Minimum Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field with at least 12 semester hours in child development, child psychology, early childhood education or other directly related course work from an accredited college or university
  • At least 4 clock hours of approved playground safety training or must take within 6 months of employment
  • North Carolina Child Care Program Administration credentials or obtain within 12 months from date of employment

 

Minimum Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of full-time verifiable childcare work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • Administrative experience preferred.

Position Description

DEFINITION:

This individual is responsible for assisting in the operation of the drop-in childcare center and management of the staff.  

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from Director of Child Development Center
  • Exercises supervision of PT staff in collaboration with the Director of the Child Development Center.

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Director of the Child Development Center in the administration of the Drop-In Child Care Center
  • Schedule appointments as needed; whether families or visitors to the center
  • Help maintain appropriate records on children enrolled in the childcare center and keep all records up-to-date 
  • Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of part-time teachers and staff
  • Assist teachers in planning and executing educational programs for the center
  • Model best practices and daily routines consistent for classroom team members and other colleagues
  • Keep director informed of any concerns
  • Mentor Early Childhood Education students, supervise volunteers, accommodate other CFCC students/programs, and model Developmentally Appropriate Practice (NAEYC) consistently
  • Help design newsletters/monthly calendars if needed
  • Take minutes at staff meetings
  • Monitor children when teachers are on break
  • Maintain all clerical duties that are required 
  • Assist in up keep of the physical environment
  • Order supplies
  • Assist the Director of the Child Development Center in budget preparation and monitoring
  • Create work schedule for Part-Time staff
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal guidelines related to the Drop-In Childcare Center and assist the Director in compiling and maintaining all state and federal reports
     

Other Important Functions:

  • Cover in the classroom as lead teacher or teacher as needed
  • Assist in fundraising
  • Maintain family bulletin board
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the Director
  • Provide assistance to families, staff, and volunteers

 

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Current trends, research, and development in childcare and early education
  • Safety training standards as applied to the planning, analysis, and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Early Childhood growth and development
  • Community resources including health, remedial services, and child development specialists who can assess children when there is concern about development
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation
     

Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Able to communicate clearly and respectfully within a group
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Successful candidate must be 21 years of age

 

  • Prior to start of employment, all child development center staff shall furnish a statement, signed by a licensed physician or an authorized health professional under his/her supervision, that indicates that the person is emotionally and physically fit to care for children.  A health professional means a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant currently approved to perform medical acts by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners.  The physical form will be provided to the staff member by the Director of the Child Development Center.

 

  • Prior to start of employment, staff must complete a fingerprint and criminal background check clearance or provide a current qualifying letter from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.  Information regarding registering for the clearance will be provided to the employee by the Director of the Child Development Center. No person shall be an operator of, nor be employed in, a childcare facility who has been convicted of a crime involving child neglect, child abuse, or moral turpitude, or who is a habitually excessive user of alcohol or who illegally uses narcotics or other impairing drugs, or who is mentally or emotionally impaired to an extent that may be injurious to children
