Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with course work in business administration, accounting, finance, computer information, or a closely related field required. Must possess data entry work processing skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). 

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of related financial aid experience preferred.  Experience with Colleague preferred.

Position Description

General DescriptionThe Financial Aid Assistant Director, under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid and the Vice President of Student Services, is responsible for assisting with all facets of the institution’s financial aid programs. This position will provide lead support to the Financial Aid Specialist.

Essential Duties of the Position:

  1. Counsels and assists students applying for financial aid opportunities.
  2. Explains financial aid programs and eligibility criteria.
  3. Provides intake services and responds to student inquiries; creates, sends, and responds to correspondence relating to financial aid programs and answers phones.
  4. Determines eligibility and computes financial aid awards utilizing various software packages. This includes processing applications and making corrections of student aid files. Also completes verifications, and monitors document tracking correspondence and award notifications.
  5. Assist in the administration of the College’s efforts to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and audit requirements as specified by the US Department of Education, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and the NC Community College System.
  6. Monitors student records for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and other criteria to ensure that financial aid obligations have been met, notifies students of continued eligibility or disqualification; advises students of the appeal processes and processes appeals.
  7. Responsible for assisting the Veterans’ Certifying Official in completing the required paperwork for submission to the Veterans Administration, including monitoring and adjusting certifications as needed.
  8. Oversee the timely and accurate posting of student aid funds to student accounts in preparation for disbursements.
  9. Assist with calculations of Return to Title IV.
  10. Maintain procedures and reports necessary to complete annual federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements and prepare report information for review by the Director of Financial Aid.
  11. Assist with annual setup of financial aid component, software updates, data testing, and troubleshooting Colleague.
  12. Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation relating to Financial Aid functional area.
  13. Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and a greater network.
  14. Develop and conduct FA presentations and participate in outreach activities.
  15. Attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned.
  16. Attends professional workshops and conferences.
  17. Handles sensitive student information with confidentiality and discretion.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
