Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing is required. Active unencumbered RN License or multistate privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina is required. Two years full-time experience as a faculty member in a Board-approved nursing program is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) – Five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or administrative level position is preferred. In lieu of supervisory experience, candidates may meet the supervisory or administrative position requirements through demonstration of leadership through project management, grant administration, heading committees, or similar experiences.
Position Description
Under the direction of the Dean of Allied Health and Sciences, performs instructional, managerial, and administrative duties in teaching, planning, developing, and directing the nursing curriculum program for the College.
Develops course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans for curriculum courses assigned. Develops lectures, classroom activities, laboratory, hands-on exercises, and/or actual work site exercises for students to participate and learn. Administers tests or other evaluation methods to students; grades and gives feedback on exercises, homework assignments, and tests. Maintains records of student performance and attendance. Assists in reviewing and selecting appropriate textbooks and instructional materials for the nursing program. Serves as advisor and registers students in Allied Health programs. Recommends revisions and changes to curriculum programs and policies to the Dean. Provides input and assistance related to student admissions in Allied Health programs. Assists the Dean in the development and implementation of the Nursing Policy and Procedures Manual. Assists in the orientation of part-time instructors. Coordinates clinical facility contracts, schedules, and clinical site evaluation. Assists with accreditation efforts for the PN and ADN programs. Participates in recruitment events for Allied Health programs. Participates in the program review process. Serves on institutional committees as assigned/appointed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of PC’s and related software. Management and administrative principles and practices. Laws, statutes, rules, and regulations affecting assigned curriculum programs in the community college system. Community college organizational structure including the integration of academic, continuing education, and student services programs. Ability to: Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software. Plan, manage, organize, and supervise instructors in a comprehensive curriculum department. Analyze, interpret, and apply policy and procedural guidelines to resolve problems and answer questions and concerns. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, business, faculty, students, staff, and the general public. Demonstrate an awareness of and support for an empowered leadership environment that values the essential worth of all individuals and the dignity of work. Provide leadership in an environment characterized by significant and constant change.
