Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent experience.

 

Experience: No specific work experience is required however; the applicant should have a familiarity with hand and power tool operations and a demonstrated ability to operate grounds equipment such as mowers, blowers and other related specialized tools required. Valid NC Driver’s license.  Ability to perform medium physical work required. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodial Services, the maintenance staff is charged with the responsibility of keeping the buildings and grounds clean, neat and free of hazards.  The incumbent must perform diversified entry-level activities related to the maintenance of the buildings and equipment and grounds maintenance.

Perform tasks assigned through work order requests as directed by the Director of Maintenance and Custodian Supervisor. Assist Maintenance Technicians with a variety of maintenance tasks.  Assist in preparing campus for special events, involving setup for furniture and supplies in buildings. Assist in moving furniture and equipment on campus. Keep storm drains and drainage ditches clear of weeds and debris. Report items in need of repair or replacement. Assist with facilities repairs and support to a variety of mechanical systems. Operate motor vehicle and pick up items necessary for plant maintenance from local vendors using purchase orders. Occasional courier duties including but not limited to picking up mail at the Grantsboro post office and delivering and retrieving inner-office mail to and from Pamlico Correctional Institute and the Bayboro facilities. Perform duties related to grounds upkeep, including grading, seeding, fertilizing, cultivating, watering, pruning, trimming, grass mowing and overall ground care, observing safety rules and procedures at all times. Operate self-propelled and mechanized power equipment as necessary.  Check campus for paper and debris and remove.
