Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Three (3) years’ progressive professional experience in any combination of the following: business or military sector OR Three (3) years’ administrative experience in continuing education or workforce development.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration or related Workforce Development degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience within the NC Community College System.
Experience using Colleague.
Position Description
Occupational Summary
The Associate Dean works under the direction of the Dean of Workforce Development. The Associate Dean assists the Dean in offering innovative programs and enhances public awareness and visibility of the college. The Associate Dean identifies current and future educational and training needs of businesses and industries in the college’s service area, and provides appropriate training needs to current and prospective employees. The Associate Dean performs a full range of professional and work activities including direct coordination of Commercial Truck Driving (CDL), Real Estate and other classes as assigned as well as providing supervision for other program areas. The Associate Dean serves as the backup for Workforce Development in the Dean’s absence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
- Assists the Dean in developing and implementing a vision for the Workforce Development Department; develops and oversees the budget and the management of day-to-day operations in the Dean’s absence
- Provides day-to-day leadership and management of workforce development programs and courses ensuring programs are in step with the current and future direction of business and industry
- Oversees the program areas of Emergency Medical Services/Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighting, Law Enforcement and Department of Public Safety programs
- Supports the Dean with the management of the day-to-day operation and training of the Craven County First Responders’ project
- Provides direct coordination of the Commercial Driver’s License/Truck Driving, Real Estate and other programs as assigned by the Dean or Vice President for Students
- Oversees all program operations, course scheduling, course outline preparation, contract preparation, registration, orientation, instruction, grading, and evaluation of all courses in the area of responsibility
- Recruits, interviews, orients, hires, manages, and evaluates adjunct for assigned program areas
- Leads efforts to develop and/or strengthen the relationship(s) between the college and external stakeholders, including industry/business, government, and military entities, public and private secondary and postsecondary schools, and other interested entities
- Works with Dean and Vice President for Development to establish a work-based learning program
- Leads workforce programs in a positive, motivational, and inspirational manner that promotes a collaborative work culture, a strong work ethic, and a caring and supportive environment
- Assists the Dean with the departmental payroll; tracks and reports weekly payroll
- Works with the Dean to oversee the assessment and continuous improvement of curricula, materials, and delivery, ensuring that state-of-the art methods and materials are used, and that academic standards are upheld
- Provides leadership and monitoring of WFD enrollment including evaluating course enrollment trends, providing input to WFD enrollment management efforts and collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate reporting
- Participates with the oversight of data input of student registration, grading and reporting procedures
- Supports the Dean with coordinating the development and accomplishment of department short- and long-term goals
- Represents the Workforce Development department by participating in and communicating effectively with relevant community and professional organizations and agencies and student recruitment opportunities
- Analyzes service trends and evaluates opportunities for training and retraining while promoting community awareness of program opportunities
- Attends required class visits as outlined in the policy for Accountability and Credibility for Workforce Development
- Supports the Dean in coordinating the updating of content including the website, catalog, and other media
- Participates in MCAS Cherry Point and FRC-East meetings and assists with all military college assistance programs such as SkillBridge, VA (GI Bill), MyCAA and Tuition Assistance
- Assists the Dean with entering or editing NCWorks Career Pathway programs
- Assists the Dean and/or leads the Monthly Workforce Development Staff meeting
- Supports the Dean with all applicable forms, NC Community College System Office communications and requests, grant submission, Prison Education Plan (PEP), Juvenile Criminal Prevention Council grants and reports, and any other forms and requests received by the department
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, values and goals

- Competent in budget planning/management, statistical research and accreditation processes including program-specific accreditation agencies
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, specifically, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
