Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in public administration, criminal justice, business administration, public safety or related field.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in business continuity/disaster recovery planning, emergency/disaster preparedness, law enforcement or risk management and insurance.  Experience in higher education or a related field is also required.

Master’s degree in a relevant subject is preferred

Previous experience managing employee relations, budget development and analysis, process evaluation and improvement, succession planning, strategic planning and project management is preferred.

Position Description

Primary Purpose of Department

The Department of Safety and Security assess risks, develops plans and implements programs to protect lives and property, prevent accidents and incidents and preserve the learning environment and business operations of Central Piedmont Community College (the “College”).

 

Areas of responsibility include:

·         Risk Management and Insurance

·         Emergency Management Planning

·         Business Continuity

·         Environmental Health and Safety

 

 

Primary Purpose of Position

The Associate Vice-President of Safety and Security is responsible for the plans and programs that protect lives and property, prevent accidents and incidents, and preserve the learning environment and business operations of the College. Reporting directly to the Vice-President for Finance and Administrative Services, the Associate Vice-President of Safety and Security provides executive-level leadership to Business Continuity, Campus Security, Emergency Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety and Insurance. 

This position will focus on the College’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Safety and Security by focusing on hazard-based risk identification, mitigation, and controls. 

The Associate Vice-President of Safety and Security also provides support and expertise to College, local, state and federal partners.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Vice President of Safety and Security  will have opportunities for leadership and achievement in many areas including, but not limited to:

·         Leading a department of approximately 31 employees, which includes 3 direct reports.  The positions reporting directly to the Associate Vice-President of Safety and Security are the Executive Director Campus Security, the Executive Director of Health and Safety, and the Executive Director of Enterprise Risk Management.

·         Directing and leading the communication between the College’s third party security firm and continued evaluation of the balance between use of external security and internal security personnel. 

·         Being a member of the Finance and Administrative Council, which includes the Associate Vice- President of Facilities and Construction, the Executive Director of Financial Services, The Associate Vice-President of Financial and Auxiliary Services, and the Chief Human Resource Officer. 

·         Overseeing an annual budget of approximately $5.1M

·         Analyzing current operations and services and developing strategic plans for ensuring those services meet College’s needs

·         Leading efforts to protect the lives and property of the College using risk management best practices as a guidepost

·         Oversight of the College’s Insurance Program

·         Supporting institutional efforts to preserve the campus academic environment, financial strength, and reputation of the college.

·         Leading efforts to prevent or mitigate disasters, business interruptions, and other emergencies.

·         Providing support and leadership to the Office of Enterprise Risk Management, Security, and Environmental Health and Safety in planning campus exercises to ensure the College is prepared for emergencies.

·         Advising the Vice-President for Finance and Administration, College Cabinet or the President and other senior leadership on matters concerning College Security.

Reporting directly to the Vice-President for Finance and Administrative Services, the Associate Vice-President of Safety and Security provides executive-level leadership to Business Continuity, Campus Security, Emergency Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety and Insurance.
