Minimum Qualifications

 

• A student-centered philosophy and demonstrated student-focused decision-making
• A demonstrated history of equity-minded decision-making
• Master’s degree in student development, counseling, higher education leadership, or a related field
• Five years of full-time experience in an area related to student affairs at the college-level
• Three years of leadership experience in an area related to student affairs at the college-level
• Experience with assessment and accreditation in higher education
• Experience with FERPA, Title IV, and Title IX
• Experience interpreting and using quantitative and qualitative data for improvement

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at a community college
• Experience with continuing education, short-term training, or non-credit programming
• Budget management experience
• Experience with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges
• Strategic planning experience
• Demonstrated understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics

Position Description

Job Description

The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs is a full-time, 12-month position, reporting to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Leading a team of student affairs professionals, the Associate Vice President ensures an open, equitable, and inclusive process for access to educational programs, delivers effective financial assistance and planning resources, maintains integrity of and appropriate access to educational records, and plans and executes a comprehensive student engagement/development program for all students.

The Associate Vice President is responsible for student affairs functions, including enrollment services, counseling and career services, financial aid and veterans affairs, records and registration, student advocacy and accountability, and student life.

The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs works closely with the Associate Vice President for Student Success, Academic Deans, the Executive Director for Economic and Workforce Development, Institutional Research, and Marketing.

Job Duties

• Serve as the College’s Chief Student Development Administrator and coordinate the College’s work related to student development and enrichment
• Ensure that all extra and co-curricular programs and events meet high standards of excellence and quality and are structured around measureable outcomes
• Ensure vibrant and successful development and enrichment opportunities for all students: traditional learners, adult learners, evening students, online students, etc.
• Provide leadership, oversight, and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to student life, especially those related to alcohol and drug use, student conduct, and Title IX compliance. Modify policies as developments in higher education occur
• Work with all College and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and assess effective recruitment efforts
• Oversee and execute the Student Code of Conduct, student discipline, and relevant appeals procedures, ensuring due process protections for students in all decisions made by College personnel
• Guarantee that students have access to counseling services, including disability services, and ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
• Ensure that Student Affairs remains in compliance with our regional accreditors and prepare compliance reports as directed by the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs or other College officials
• Ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) in all aspects of Division operations and serve as a resource regarding FERPA to the College
• Guarantee access to information and counseling to students about financial support, including Title IV funding, veterans affairs benefits, scholarships, and grants, and ensure compliance with all funding sources.
• Capture and maintain relevant data related to all areas of responsibility, prepare reports, and use data to inform decision-making
• Represent the college with external constituents, including potential students, parents, business/industry and community members, partners in secondary and higher education, correctional education partners, local and state government and law enforcement, and representatives of other relevant institutions
• Maintain presence at all campuses and locations
• Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the President or the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs
