  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution or executive leadership in business, industry, or workforce training
  • Experience in corporate/continuing education in a community college setting or active familiarity with businesses in the College service area

The Associate Vice President, Workforce and Community Engagement displays a focus on developing a skilled talent pipeline for the local and regional workforce through the provision of education and training programs aligned with business and industry needs.  This position leads the College's workforce and community engagement efforts, which includes curriculum and continuing education programs designed to prepare students for direct entry into and advancement in professional technical, public safety, and public service career fields, industry training programs, community engagement and personal enrichment, and the DCCC Small Business Center. The Associate Vice President utilizes effective interpersonal and communication skills to establish partnerships with business, industry, and professional associations that advance College workforce programs and opportunities to serve Davidson and Davie counties.  Strategic planning, critical analysis, and budget management skills are essential for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of innovative programs and services.  The Associate Vice President, Workforce Development and Community Engagement reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and works closely with senior leadership and staff to achieve the goals of the division in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engages in strategic visioning to support development of innovative education and training programs aligned with current and future needs of business and industry
  • Guides and supports the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of workforce education and training programs
  • Provides leadership in course and programmatic design, instructional delivery and assessment activities, conducting research and analysis to evaluate viability of new and existing credit and non-credit career and technical programs
  • Provides leadership in strategic planning for the division, budget development, and the creation and assessment of institutional effectiveness measures in all assigned areas
  • Helps identify and secure appropriate institutional resources to support professional development of workforce development faculty and staff
  • Serves as the institutional liaison to a variety of economic and workforce development and training agencies
  • Promotes the establishment of registered apprenticeship programs including recruitment of new member companies, maintenance of productive relationships with current member companies, workforce development boards, and K-12 in the development of career pathways leading to apprenticeship.
  • Promotes the connection between education and the economy by developing and maintaining close working relationships with the state and local business community, schools, higher education, and workforce/economic development agencies.
  • Ensures that College programs address all workforce and community needs, including apprenticeships, job skills training, professional development, workforce certifications, personal enrichment programs, and continuing education courses
  • Facilitates communication regarding academic programs and services with other college constituents.
  • Works to create and sustain a student centered environment that meets the needs of each student and promotes equitable outcomes.
  • Works actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork.
  • Works to support the teaching and learning process, creating and supporting a student centered environment.
  • Supports college’s efforts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and globalization.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the College
