Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Experience in the particular area being taught.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Position Description
Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Instruction, this individual is responsible for all aspects of teaching their assigned classes which may include Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Compensatory Education (CED).
Specific responsibilities include:
- Prepare goals and objectives for each student and communicate them clearly to each student
- Plan and prepare for classes that combine individualized and group instruction with independent work time for students
- Assess each student’s educational level through the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) tests
- Maintain files, LEIS forms, and portfolios on every student—keeping them organized, updated, and secure
- Assist students in academic planning for self-paced progress
- Accommodate students according to the NCCCS guidelines
- Begin and end classes at the designated times and notify the Director of Basic Skills of any class changes
- Provide students with progress reports at frequent intervals
- Maintain accurate, legible attendance sheets and other records as instructed by the Director of Basic Skills—Ensure records are submitted on time
- Attend meetings and trainings related to job assignments
- Attend professional development trainings and conferences
- Continually promote student retention by encouraging students to attend regularly and requesting follow up calls be made by the Assessment and Retention Specialist for students missing multiple classes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Basic Skills
- Follow all guidelines outlined in Pamlico Community College Procedures Manual, the PCC Division of Continuing Education Instructor Manual, and the NCCCS Office Guidelines
- Follow all Department of Corrections policies and procedures relative to the safety and security of inmates and staff
