Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field
Five or more years related experience
Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier

Position Description
This position provides leadership and accountability on behalf of the College in developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety programs to maintain compliance with OSHA requirements, CDC guidelines and relevant professional standards.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

*Develops and implements programs to maintain compliance CDC guidelines and OSHA requirements related to program areas such as bloodborne pathogens, infectious waste, biosafety in microbiological laboratories; and various OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1910 such as confined spaces, walking-working surfaces, exit routes and emergency planning, environmental control and hazardous materials management
*Coordinates the management and disposal of biohazardous waste and infectious waste; provides accountability of waste disposal with accurate recordkeeping
*Conducts personal protective equipment assessments, job hazard analyses, accident investigations, and laboratory, classroom and office audiometric evaluations, and safety assessments
Develops, coordinates and presents safety training to faculty and staff
Develops standard operating procedures and other written guidelines
Supports the College as a member of the hazardous materials spill response team
Supports the maintenance and implementation of the College’s Pandemic and Infectious Disease Management Plan
Develops and maintains an up-to-date understanding of the Federal, State and local safety laws, regulations, requirements, and policies and relevant professional standards applicable to Wake Tech through self-guided study and professional development
Represents Wake Tech to outside community and professional organizations for which Environmental, Health and Safety department representation is required or serves the interests of the College
Completes applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient skills in MS Office products
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental protection, occupational health and occupational and biosafety safety standards and laws
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to efficiently manage time, organize work, prioritize tasks, and work independently
Thorough knowledge of laboratory chemicals and chemical hygiene practices
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
