Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, education or related field;
  • Two years’ experience working with adults diagnosed with I/DD;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature of education and skill development for adults with I/DD;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Criminal history record consent is required as well as a finger print check if the applicant has been a resident of NC for less than five years (General Statute 122C-80).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCI Certification;
  • CPR;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook;
  • Community college adult education experience 

Position Description

The essential duties of this instructional position are: 

  • Daily instruction within the context of a fully operational greenhouse.  Instruction includes literacy, measuring, sales and cash management, budgeting, inventory, and customer service. 
  • Fosters an atmosphere that stimulates learners to achieve goals, independence, and a higher level of self-esteem.
  • Eliminates any mental, physical, or social barriers that may arise within the learning environment.
  • Works with the program director to set academic and vocational goals for students.
  • Assists with pre-vocational training and creative learning activities at various academic levels.
  • Systematically assesses academic progress among students.
  • Maintains up to date record keeping (hard copy and electronic).
  • Participates in program committees related to student rights, safety, and quality improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The physical requirements for this position are:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds. This position may require the employee to push a wheelchair with the weight of an adult.
