Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years’ experience of teaching adults with intellectual developmental disabilities
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of education and skill development for adults diagnosed with I/DD
  • The lead instructor must have a desire to mentor, assist and evaluate classroom settings, monitor and assess instructional strategies of fellow co-teachers
  • NCI Certification
  • NC Driver License
  • General Statute 122C-80 Criminal History Record consent is required as well as fingerprint check if the applicant has been a resident of NC for less than 5 years

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Lead Instructor will be responsible for teaching Adult Basic Education. Responsibilities include instruction, testing, maintaining portfolios, and serving as a liaison between instructional staff, students, administration and families. A Lead Teacher must demonstrate outstanding performance in goal setting, observing, coaching, modeling, conferencing and staff mentoring.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:      

  • Delivers Practical Instruction Related To Adult Basic Education Content Standards
  • Assists With Individualized Goal Setting For Students
  • Assists With The Coordination OF Standardized Exams In Conjunction With Assessment Coordinator
  • Ability To Manage Classroom With A Diverse Student Population Reading
  • Conducts Classroom Quality Visitations In Collaboration With The Program Director
  • Assists The Program Director With Fostering a Positive Learning Environment Among Instructors
  • Coordinates Professional Development For Part-Time Instructors;  Routinely Shares Expertise, Knowledge, Technology, and Practical Strategies That Engage Learners
  • Participates In The Strategic Planning and Performance / Quality Improvement Process Linked To Accreditation
  • Serves As A Resource For The Programs Advisory Team
  • Submits Error Free End Of Course Paperwork and Mentors Part-Time Instructors On Quality Documentation. 
  • Exhibits Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Problem Solving, Active Listening, Conflict Resolution, and Verbal Presentation Skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically able to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Must be physically able to push or pull a wheelchair to move individuals if necessary

 

Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and support of College policies and procedures
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Office 360 and online resources sponsored by NCCCS
  • Must have the ability and vocabulary required to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty, subordinates, students and the public
