Strong retail background, strong computer skills, and experience with cashiering, a point-of-sale system, a computerized textbook management system, inventory management, and merchandising (especially with office and art supplies).
Position Description
Assist in the operational aspects of the daily bookstore operation, including merchandising, inventory management, sales, customer service, and cash management. Responsible for the operational aspects of the bookstore in the absence of the Bookstore Manager.
Job Duties
• Provide a high quality of customer service.
• Maintain adequate levels of stock items, both for in store use and for resale by periodically inventorying shelves, informing the manager of any out-of-stock items as well as non-selling merchandise, customer requests, etc.
• Receive incoming books and supplies according to established bookstore procedures. Place merchandise on shelves for sale as soon as possible after it is received.
• Work with computerized textbook management system.
• Prepare textbooks for returns as directed by the Bookstore Manager, securing permission from the publisher when necessary.
• Set up bookshelves each semester using shelf tags and booklist.
• Assist in training part-time employees including work study students.
• Serve as cashier on a daily basis and be responsible for the accuracy of the bookstore’s change fund. Report any discrepancies to the Bookstore Manager immediately. Assist in maintaining Bookstore Daily Sales Record. Prepare the Daily Cash Analysis (DCA) for each shift.
• Update orders and pricing in the bookstore’s POS system.
• Perform other operational duties including maintenance of the bookstore’s filing system and preparation of invoices for campus purchases; assist departments with requisitions.
• Keep bookstore shelves and snack/drink area clean, neat, orderly, and stocked.
• Assist in the disposal of boxes and packing materials on a regular basis.
• Assist in the organization and delivery of uniforms, caps, and gowns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Bookstore Manager.
