The Business Development Professional contributes to the mission and activities of the North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC). The NCMBC is a statewide, business development and technology transition entity of the State of North Carolina, operating at community colleges statewide. The mission of the NCMBC is to leverage military and other federal business opportunities to expand the economy, grow jobs and improve quality of life in North Carolina. This position will work on the NCMBC’s business development team to identify the most lucrative federal contract opportunities and assist firms to understand government solicitations, prepare winning proposals and to successfully execute federal contracts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts public awareness, recruits and counsels area businesses regarding federal contract opportunities
  • Conducts assistance visits to current federal contractors and contracting-capable, mature businesses
  • Assesses client companies’ business development, capture, contract execution and other capabilities; recommends actions and assists in coordinating with community college and other resources to fill gaps and improve capabilities
  • Develops, coordinates and presents training in multiple counties on finding federal contract opportunities; developing proposals for responses to federal solicitations, Wide Area Workflow, evaluating GSA schedule and preparing responses to GSA schedule contract solicitations
  • Identifies future and current federal business opportunities within assigned industry(ies) and from assigned federal buying offices; uses the NCMBC client management software to identify NC companies capable of performing the work and source the opportunities to these businesses statewide
  • Provides one-on-one business assistance services to companies to identify federal customers, identify competitors, understand specific federal solicitations and develops proposals and/or quotes for government contracts, including GSA schedule contracts
  • Assists in developing contract-specific teaming relationships, and assists in planning, coordinating, and executing networking events between NC and out-of-state prime contractors
  • Assists in coordinating NCMBC training events (Federal/Defense Contractor Academies and advanced training workshops) within assigned geographic area of responsibility
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with assigned federal buying offices and small business specialists in order to develop market intelligence on future opportunities; with the NCMBD webmaster, maintains industry-and-agency specific market intelligence pages on the NCMBD website
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the NCMBC’s mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in planning, organization, communication, presentation, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases and internet research systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible with the ability to change focus quickly to different priorities
