Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must have a current Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification or be capable of enrolling and successfully completing the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program. 

Preferred Qualifications

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License, with a record which allows applicant to be insurable under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy. The officer must be able to pass the required criminal background check, drug screening and medical and psychological evaluations. This position requires the candidate be certified through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission. An Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and law enforcement experience are preferred. Bilingual and National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.

Position Description

The primary responsibilities of this position are to maintain our existing students’ focus for a safe learning environment and enforce all state and federal laws ensuring the safety and security of the main campus and college property. Duties include vehicle and foot patrol, securing campus buildings, and assisting students, visitors, and employees. The officer will enforce campus traffic regulations while maintaining a good working relationship with local law enforcement, students, visitors, and employees of the campus. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communications skills. This position requires the applicant work outside in both cold and heat conditions for extended periods of time and be able to work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, on-call after hours and short notice, as needed.
