The Career Coach - Lee County (11 months) is a part of the Central Carolina Works (CCW) team. The CCW program is an initiative to support high school students who are participating in the state Career and College Promise (CCP) program.  The CCP program allows high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while completing high school requirements.  

 

Central Carolina Community College and Lee County School places Career Coaches in all service-area high schools. The Career Coach is assigned to work at Southern Lee high school, Bragg Street, and Ascend Leadership Academy.  The Career Coach’s role is to support potential and current students in the CCP program through career and college exploration, advising, registration, providing student support services and relationship building.   The Career Coach will support any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and work in conjunction with the Lead Career Coach for Lee County. This position reports to the Executive Director of Secondary Partnerships.

Essential Duties

 

  • Works in collaboration with principals, high school counselors, high school career development coordinators, Lead Career Coach and the CCCC Executive Director of Secondary Partnerships to facilitate CCP programing at Southern Lee, Bragg Street, and Ascend Leadership.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for CCCC enrollment services and program information. 
  • Assists students and families in navigating CCP admissions policies and procedures: answers specific inquiries, maintains contact with prospective students, and ensures completion of application materials of students in the dual enrollment program. 
  • Assesses prospective student admission data such as test scores and placement information, reviews transcripts from high schools, and evaluates other relevant documentation for eligibility into CCP pathways.  
  • Works with students one-on-one to plan and reach career and educational goals, referring them to appropriate academic programs and or short-term training options.
  • Administers career assessments and provides academic and career guidance regarding skills, interests, and personality traits.
  • Provides college and career advising and registers students in courses per CCP pathways and policies.
  • Engages in proactive outreach to assigned student caseload regarding grades and attendance, connecting students to college resources and services as needed. 
  • Reports bi-weekly grade updates to assigned high schools for all enrolled CCP students.
  • Updates and submits enrollment records every semester as required in CCP policy.  
  • Engages students, counselors, faculty, parents, and other stakeholders as appropriate in information sessions related to college success and CCP advising sessions on related topics.
  • Manages college textbooks at high school sites.
  • Utilizes the early alert system to identify and provide intervention, resources, and strategies for students in need of support.
  • Participates in Lee County Schools (LCS) meetings regarding CCP and CCCC.
  • Works with the Career Coach team to ensure CCP and college enrollment goals are met and college pathway materials and instructional supplies are distributed within the high schools.
  • Encourages and supports college activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies.
  • Engages students in co-curricular career community activities to foster student development and establish a sense of belonging.
  • Cultivates a culture of care and advocacy through compassion, inclusion, opportunity, integrity, courage, and people.
  • Actively engages with college committees as appointed.
  • Celebrates student achievement at graduation ceremonies and other recognitions.
  • Attends departmental, divisional, and collegewide meetings.
  • Engages in a minimum of 5 hours of professional development each year. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Secondary Partnerships.
