Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major course work in education or a related field. 
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in education, including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Two years of instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of adult education assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.

Position Description

Part-time position, professional (25 hours per week)
 
The role of the part-time Career Pathway Specialist, College and Career Readiness (CCR) is to create and promote transitional activities in career pathways for Adult High School (AHS) and High School Equivalency (HSE) students.  The Career Pathway Specialist will serve as an informational resource to CCR students regarding career pathways available at College of the Albemarle.  Activities and pathways will include assessment, instruction, and advising AHS and HSE students in order to effectively transition students to post-secondary education opportunities and/or the workforce.   The Career Pathway Specialist will collaborate with internal and external partners to develop, support, and implement transitional efforts.

The Career Pathway Specialist receives supervision from the Director, College and Career Readiness.
 

Examples of Duties

Administrative Duties/ Completions:

  • Evaluate data and strategies utilized for transition into curriculum/continuing education career pathways
  • Demonstrate visionary leadership in recruitment and retention of AHS and HSE students into career pathways.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to establish effective transition models.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide resources for barrier assistance
  • Organizes, schedules classes.
  • Maintains frequent oral and written close communication ties with Director, CCR.
  • Stays abreast of new developments and changes in related fields; participates in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other programs as appropriate.

Academic Advisement and Guidance:

  • Implements the Advisement and Retention Plan for students, using measurable strategies in accordance with established CCR Program procedures.
  • Acts as the primary advisor to career pathway students.
  • Makes regular assessments of the involvement and progress of current students.
  • Maintains continuous contact with ongoing students to monitor progress and students who may have difficulty attending class and maintaining hours.
  • Assists with transitioning students from CCR programs into post-secondary and continuing opportunities.
  • Makes referrals as necessary to special programs and agencies that are available to aid student progress (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Human Resource Development (HRD), Student Success and Enrollment Management (SSEM), etc.).
  • Creates lesson plans for instruction of students in area taught.
  • Works with other programs in the college to develop contextualized curriculum for career pathways.  Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional courses.
  • Provides instruction to adult students, evaluate needs; corrects work and assigns tasks.
  • Assist in preparing marketing materials to publicize and market CCR career pathways for AHS and HSE students.

Direction and Implementation of Program Goals:

  • Participates in regular North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) training sessions.
  • Works with the Coordinators and Director to recommend additions, changes and deletions to keep program area current.

Career Specialist Duties:

  • Plans, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for providing HSE instruction and other related services within the department.
  • Ensures record keeping is accurate, current and meets all compliance requirements.
  • Works with the coordinators and Director on staff training.
  • Organizes educational materials for use in the CCR Program.
  • Consults with distance education personnel.
  • Solicits and coordinates speakers for special program events and classes.
  • Advises participants regarding CCR career pathways, provides placement, orientation, retention and transition advisement.
  • Assists with orientation.

Curriculum Development:

  • Updates and evaluates processes; participates in materials identification activities for career pathway.
  • Selects and orders equipment and materials with coordinators and Director.
  • Assist with new curriculum development for CCR career pathway programs.

Instructional Duties:

  • Works with other programs in the college to develop contextualized curriculum for career pathways.
  • Facilitates the use of contextualized curriculum with students who are transitioning into career pathways.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.

General Duties:

  • Participates on College and CCR education program committees and in other institutional activities and programs, attends agency meetings.
  • Participates on other community/state agency boards and committees.
