Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field with some professional experience, preferably in a community college environment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

Information Technology Requirements:  Must be able to operate a computer equipped with such software as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, SPSS, Microsoft Project specialized decision science software, etc.  Able to use Outlook email and conduct research on the Internet. Operate a variety of specialized equipment such as laser and color printer, computer projection device, fax machine, photocopier, telephone, etc.

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated machines including telephone, computer, copier, calculator, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Position involves mostly sedentary work, but may require walking or standing for brief periods of time. 

Data Conception:  Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication:  Requires the ability to speak to and/or signal to people in order to convey or exchange information.  Includes the giving of assignments and instructions to assistants.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from the Assistant Vice President of Student Support.

Language Ability:  Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, books, manuals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare documents and reports with the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, etc. Requires the ability to speak with poise, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence:   Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.  Is able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems in order to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.

Numerical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; utilize decimals; figure percentages; apply algebraic principles; and utilize descriptive and inferential statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated equipment.

Manual Dexterity:  Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, computer, calculator, control knobs, switches, etc.  Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity:  Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.

Interpersonal Temperament:  Requires the ability to relate to and deal with people in situations beyond receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with an emergency.

Physical Communication:  Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)

Position Description

Under general supervision, the Career Services Associate will collaboratively support the Career Services team in its efforts to deliver high-quality services to Pitt Community College students, alumni, faculty, and business and industry partners. This position will assist in supporting faculty and students with successful program completion by identifying and promoting internship and employment opportunities posted to the College’s online job database, career resource platforms, and assisting students and alumni with applying to them. The Career Services Associate will utilize a variety of online tools, technologies, and remote working methodologies to inform, educate, and provide effective services to a diverse range of stakeholders. The position reports to the Career Service Coordinator.
