Minimum Qualifications

  • Individual must have an associate’s degree in carpentry, or closely related field.
  • Relevant work experience in carpentry/construction
  • Willingness to work irregular hours including nights and weekends as necessary
  • Exceptional interpersonal relations skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Desire to use or learn to use technology (i.e. Internet) to deliver instruction
  • Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept

  • NCCER – Carpentry Credential

Position Description

Since quality instruction is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each Instructor to effectively and efficiently stimulate learning in every course. The purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive, educational instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. This course provides proper technique, safety, and detail which are essential skills of trades professionals. Format for the course will include classroom instruction and individualized demonstrations of skills utilized in the field.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides students with hands on training as well as textbook training to succeed in carpentry/construction field.
  • Demonstrates an ability to study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
  • Ability to shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws and to follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Assists students in installing tile, structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on building codes and regulations
  • Ensure that all documentation (rosters, tests, sign-in sheets, grading, course outline, accident report’s) are maintained and in a timely fashion.

  • Building methods
  • Proper clothing, safety, tool use, and maintenance.
  • Safety in the workplace
  • Blueprint reading and building codes
  • Principles and practices of computers and related software
  • Assigned program and activities
  • Educational tools, assessments, and other methods for the assigned programs and activities.

Ability to:

  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Create effective instruction for delivery in both online and physical classrooms while maintaining compliance with ADA standards.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

The successful candidate must begin work on September 12, 2022. Salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and labor market.
