Minimum Qualifications

Education:    Associate's Degree in Nursing

Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Registered nurse with an unencumbered license to practice in North Carolina
  • Two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States
  • One (1) year (2000 hours) of RN experience in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by: 
    • working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility that is a distinct part of a hospital, or
    • supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility that is a distinct part of a hospital

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • One (1) year of teaching experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting
  • Two (2) years of community college teaching experience
  • One year of supervisory experience

Physical Demands:  Ability to meet the essential cognitive, sensory, affective, and psychomotor performance requirements and functions.

Licensing Requirement:  Hold an unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) to practice in North Carolina.

Position Description

Carteret Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) Chairperson to lead our C.N.A. program.  The Chairperson will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare professionals by providing leadership, administrative, instructional, and coordinative duties in the division.

Duties include:

General Duties

  • Administer North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR), the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON), and US Federal (CFR), and North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) regulations and program structure
  • Ensure departmental programs are in full compliance with the requirements of the DHSR, NCBON, and NCCCS
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry and community stakeholders pertinent to departmental programs and prospective graduates
  • Establish and maintain an effective program advisory committee
  • Promote an environment conducive to learning and maintaining high standards in all classes
  • Explore and develop new programs and/or class offerings
  • Administer academic policies and procedures equitably

 

Facilitate program review and planning process:

  • Identify, execute, and assess program objectives, program level learning objectives, and course level learning objectives
  • Collect program data as requested by division dean and senior administration
  • Interpret, and analyze data related to program outcomes
  • Develop action plan for use of assessment results
  • Maintain program assessment plan in college-approved repository
  • Prepare comprehensive program reviews as scheduled
  • Prepare program reaccreditation reports as required
  • Develop program marketing strategies and participate in college marketing opportunities and events

 

Provide student related services:

  • Organize and participate in student recruitment activities
  • Participate in student orientation
  • Advise students according to the college advising model
  • Evaluate student needs and refer as needed
  • Participate in student retention, persistence, and success development strategies

Administer faculty and staff operations:

  • Supervise and assist part-time/full-time employees in the department
  • Promote a collaborative work environment
  • Promote professional standards
  • Enforce college policies and procedures
  • Determine staffing needs and establish qualifications
  • Verify and submit departmental faculty credentialing documents
  • Prepare adjunct contracts
  • Recruit, interview, and select full and part-time faculty according to Human Resources procedures
  • Assist in orientation of faculty
  • Assign teaching schedules for departmental faculty under workload policy guidelines
  • Identify and procure resources needed by part-time faculty
  • Evaluate performance of department full-time and part-time faculty
  • Assist faculty with the development of professional goals and objectives

Manage budgets and equipment/supplies

  • Coordinate the requisition of resources and services, including equipment, supplies, facilities, and other materials required for effective departmental operations and delivery of instruction
  • Plan annual program part-time salary and other costs budget
  • Determine program equipment needs and prepare equipment budget requests
  • Collaborate with faculty to project future funding needs
  • Allocate and reallocate funds based on departmental, divisional, and institutional priorities
  • Monitor expenditures and provide periodic reports to faculty and senior administration
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Place repair and supply orders

 

Supervise/Provide Instruction:

  • Ensure the development, use, and publication of appropriate course syllabi and reading schedules
  • Develop course master syllabi and select textbooks and course materials
  • Develop an annual schedule in consultation with other divisions and departments
  • Review and approve textbook adoptions and book orders
  • Revise and update curriculum
  • Promote the development of innovative instruction
  • Coordinate with other programs and divisions to provide timely instruction for program completion
  • Supervise online presence for all program course content
  • Plan and deliver instruction
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria
  • Ensure instructional sessions contains essential curricular components, have appropriate content and andragogy, and maintain currency to industry standards
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student engagement and learning
  • Facilitate and/or provide quality laboratory and/or clinical learning experiences
  • Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories
  • Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, and report maintenance needs
  • Maintain appropriate office hours and accessibility for students

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve on college committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, and employee meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must have the ability to accommodate a flexible working schedule which may include day, evening, weekend, and off-campus clinical hours and coursework, as well as online coursework for the division.   Limited travel within our service area.  Overnight travel for clinical and professional meetings may be required.  

Permanent full-time employees are required to contribute to the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS).  The mandatory employee contribution is 6%; the employer contribution is as established by the General Assembly.
