Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited dental hygiene program  AND Master’s Degree in any field;
2. Five years of full-time or equivalent work experience as a clinical dental hygienist;
3. Teaching experience in dental hygiene;
4. Experience with dental office software;
5. Current (2 years or newer) Continuing Dental Education experience in Dental Hygiene course content;
6. Educational Methodology coursework experience;
7. Registered Dental Hygienist;

8. NC Certification in local anesthesia

9. CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

1. Certified Dental Assistant;

2. SPICE Certification;

3. Experience teaching at a community college;

4. Experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning;

5. Experience in the accreditation process;

6. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language

Position Description

Job Description Summary

The Department Chair, Dental Hygiene is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the Dental Hygiene Department. These responsibilities include but are not limited to organization, administration, budgeting, continuous review, planning, development, faculty selection, and general effectiveness of the programs.

Duties

1. Supports equity in all aspects.

2. Contributes to a safe and secure campus environment.

3. Supports the College’s Mission, Vision, Values, and RISE Statement.

4. Maintains compliance with requirements from SACSCOC, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and program accreditors where appropriate.

5. Maintains knowledge of and compliance with the Standards of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, the State Board of Community Colleges approved standards for the curricula and the Criteria of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

6. Submits self-study accreditation report and annual survey to the American Dental Association, and A-8 Tech Program Review reports as required.

7. Enforces College policies and procedures.

8. Clearly communicates with all stakeholders.

9. Recruits and hires departmental employees following the guidelines from the Executive Leadership Team and from Human Resources.

10. Develops department schedules and makes teaching assignments.

11. Assists with onboarding for new departmental faculty and staff.

12. Supports ongoing professional development for all departmental faculty and staff.

13. Participates in the Performance Enhancement Process (PEP) for full-time faculty and evaluates adjuncts.

14. Works with departmental faculty and the Coordinator, Curriculum Compliance to ensure the curriculum remains relevant, rigorous, and equitable, and that it meets state standards.

15. Identifies and procures appropriate teaching technology.

16. Ensures that all reporting to internal and external agencies is timely and accurate.

17. Oversees Student Learning Outcomes assessment on the department level.

18. Selects and orders textbooks and other course material.

19. Develops and supervises department budgets.
20. Serves on campus committees.

21. Coordinates department relations with the community and employers, including contact with other allied dental educators and planning and holding Allied Dental Advisory Committee meetings.

22. Regularly attends meetings and/or interacts with members of the dental, dental auxiliary, and dental auxiliary education community across the state and nation.

23. Instructs an appropriate course load, serves on campus committees, and advises an appropriate number of students, as determined by the Dean and the Vice President of Instructional Services.

24. Performs other duties as assigned.
