Position Description

The Program Chair of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program is a full-time faculty member responsible for the administrative management of the Early Childhood Education Program including all associated certificates and diplomas. The program chair is directly responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives, and ensuring program compliance with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include:
- Providing coordination and oversight for day-to-day operations of ECE;
- Meeting student retention goals;
- Teaching;
- Preparing class schedules, based on current levels of demand;
- Directing and participating in educational planning;
- Program organization;
- Staffing, training and supervision of both full-time and part-time faculty;
- Evaluating program faculty and student performance;
- Promoting a culture of caring by motivating and advising students;
- Developing and maintaining the program budget including capital and operating budget requests;
- Generating program reports as needed;
- Promoting a culture of collaboration by fostering good relationships within the college and external groups to strengthen interdisciplinary and industry ties, public agencies, discipline societies, and other organizations;
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean
The individual that serves as a Program Chair of Early Childhood Education is a faculty member who serves as a liaison with the administration of the College, while also performing administrative functions. This faculty is required to teach a limited faculty load.
