Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Bachelors degree in computer science field
 
Experience: Five years of experience in management information systems and computer operations

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience is a plus.

Position Description

Supervises and coordinates the daily activities, services, and operations of the Information Technology Department.  This includes analysis and programming, computer operations, and design and operation of the college data network and user support services.  Will also coordinate assigned activities with other college departments and outside agencies and provide administrative support to the Vice-President of Administrative Services.

  • Advises and consults with personnel concerning the application of data processing systems to fully address the management information needs of Mayland Community College (MCC) 
  • Advises and serves as resources staff to the Vice-President of Administrative Services and the President in the selection and design of hardware and software systems to address specific management information systems needs 
  • Assigns duties and responsibilities and prioritizes work tasks for Information Technology staff 
  • Designs and supervises the maintenance and installation of all technology systems. 
  • Assume management responsibility for all services and activities related to all campus Information Technology functions. 
  • Assists the Controller and the Vice-President for Administrative Services in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the Information Technology Department. 
  • Assists in the generation of data needed for the preparation of various college reports and other related management information needs 
  • Assists in strategic planning and long-range assessments to determine computer hardware and software needs and evaluate the feasibility of converting existing methods and procedures to automated data processing systems 
  • Assists in the design and implementation of computer training programs for MCC employees 
  • Maintains the security of the computer system and the protection and confidentiality of all records 
  • Assists in the registration process 
  • Maintains detailed working knowledge of recent developments and upcoming trends in computer technology; reads professional journals and publications; attends conferences and seminars as appropriate 
  • Recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommend and administer policies and procedures 
  • Coordinate and review the work plan for the computer services function; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures. 
  • Provide staff assistance to departments; meet with appropriate staff regarding ongoing or planned projects; analyze department requirements for computer services; recommend computer hardware and software purchases. 
  • Recommend the procurement of computer hardware and software; confer with vendors; assess products offered; recommend purchase of computer related goods and services. 
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive staff inquiries and complaints regarding computer systems. 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data management program including systems development, testing and troubleshooting, documentation, systems analysis, computer operations, and technical support. 
  • Serves on college committees as assigned. 
  • Other duties as assigned by  the Vice-President of Administrative Services
