Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree with at least 12 semester hours in Early Childhood Education (Bachelor's preferred) and a Level II Early Childhood Administration Credential from a regionally accredited institution with 3 years of experience. Strong communication, planning, and flexibility are a must. The confidentiality of each child and family must be maintained at all times.  The Child Care Coordinator shall be immunized, have a current TB skin test, and in good physical health as evidence by a physical examination documentation. The Child Care Coordinator is also responsible for current certification in CPR, First Aid, and for meeting all other requirements set forth by the Division of Child Development and Early Education requirements.

Responsible for implementing the philosophy and objectives of the Child Development Center and for providing support to the Director of the Child Development Center in daily operations.  Reports directly to the Director of the CDC to assure instructional matters in the Center coincide with the Early Childhood instructional program. The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for providing day to day high quality, age appropriate lesson plans for children in the respective age group they are assigned. The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for providing bathroom breaks, lunch breaks, and when a teacher is out will help cover classroom responsibilities. The Child Care Coordinator shall be immunized, have a current TB skin test, and in good physical health as evidenced by an annual physical examination documentation.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Support, and comply with all Center policies and policies of the Early Childhood Education instructional program(s).
     Read, understand, and practice the following handbooks:
    1. NCC Employee Handbook
    2. NAEYC Code of Ethics
    3. NAEYC – DAP Book
    4. The Division of Child Development and Early Education: NC State Licensing Regulations
    5. Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales
    6. NC State Health Department Regulations
    7. NCC-Child Development Center Parent Handbook
    8. NCC-Child Development Center Staff Handbook
  • Promotes child development and learning; Builds family and community relationships.
  • Use HiMama to communicate information to parents and families.
  • Demonstrates developmentally effective approaches to connect with children and families.
  • Is an Early Childhood professional and uses such standards to manage relationships.
  • Promote healthy eating practices according to Division of Child Development and Early Education.
  • Promotes child development and learning
  • Builds family and community relationships
  • Has a working knowledge how to observe, document, and assess children’s learning (Creative Curriculum 5th Edition Assessment Tool Kit)
  • Is an Early Childhood Professional and uses such standards to manage relationships
  • Promotes healthy eating practices according to Division of Child Development and Early Education.
  • Covers at least 1 lunch daily, when needed provides bathroom breaks, schedules substitutes and serves as classroom substitute when needed.
  • Helps ensure classroom materials and kitchen supplies are ordered and stocked neatly and organized within budgetary authorizations.
  • Responsible for meal preparation but not limited to the following: maintaining nutritional requirements, ordering of food/supplies, and cleaning/maintenance of the kitchen.
  • Coordinates with Director to maintain staff and children files for annual licensing inspection.
  • Receive, monitor, sort and file attendance/meal logs, sleep charts, menus, incident/accident reports and daily mail.
  • Maintain healthy food items as required by Shape NC and monitor allergy and food substitution needs of students and make modifications as needed.
  • Helps Director maintain annual compliance requirements (facility inspections, records, medication forms, storage procedures, playground and facility maintenance, class ratios, and teacher in-service hours.
  • Has a working knowledge on how to perform monthly:  fire drills, playground inspections, Down East Partnership for Children and DSS reports.
  • Participate in staff development activities including, but not limited to, attending the NC – AEYC and/or NAEYC annual conference and complete the required number of on-training hours according to DCDEE. 
  • Responsible for coordinating menus and grocery shopping, as needed.
  • Using p-card to purchase required food and CDC supplies, maintain p-card receipts, following all rules for using p-card, preparing monthly reconciliation documentation.
  • Attend and participate in quarterly staff meetings

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR COLLABORATION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEPARTMENT:

  • Works collaboratively with the EDU department faculty.

 

OTHER NASH COMMUNITY COLLEGE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Participate in professional development activities provided by NCC session in support of the Early Childhood Education instructional program. 
  • Participate in NCC’s self-performance evaluation process
  • Participate in College events and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of NCC.

While performing this job the employee is:
