Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC)
  • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Ability to perform the following functions:
  • Integrate child development principles into all aspects of program practices
  • Design, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate environments for children ages six weeks to five years
  • Demonstrate best practices in early care and education
  • Integrate age appropriateness and individual appropriateness into each child's daily experience
  • Demonstrate the value of diversity in the learning environment
  • Provide information, support, and resources for parents

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience in an Early Childhood setting

Child Development Center Staff II, Lead Teacher

 
The Child Development Center Staff II, Lead Teacher has primary responsibility for effective design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early care and education environment.  The CDC Staff I Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Director of the CDC and has the following responsibilities:RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes College mission, values, and vision 
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates developmentally appropriate environments that reflect the value of diversity for preschool children from six weeks to five years 
  • Integrates the principles of child development into all aspects of program practice 
  • Models research-based current best practices in early care and learning 
  • Documents development and learning at both the individual and group level 
  • Demonstrates flexibility, openness to change, and commitment to working in a collaborative, team-based environment 
  • Maintains a learning environment that adheres to compliance requirements, demonstrates program quality standards, and supports each child's development and learning 
  • Monitors classroom needs and prepares records and reports to support educational plans 
  • Provides leadership in planning and implementing activities that promote campus and community involvement 
  • Implements a variety of teaching styles, updates classroom materials, and provides for a stimulating arrangement of classroom space and equipment 
  • Consults with the Director of the CDC to ensure recommendation of appropriate resources and/or referrals for families 
  • Supervises DCCC students in Early Childhood and other programs of study, providing timely, appropriate feedback regarding classroom assignments, observations, and/or internships in CDC classroom 
  • Pursues appropriate professional development experiences 
  • Models professional integrity 
  • Assists in orientation and mentoring of new CDC teachers 
  • Serves on committees to support the College and division purpose 
  • Performs other duties as assigned which support the purpose and initiatives of the CDC and College
