Industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor; or as a coordinator of work-based learning (job-shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships); or as a career/academic advisor; or in school counseling.

Position Description

Central Piedmont is in search of a City of Charlotte Career Navigation Coach - Grant Funded for the Central Campus. 

Anticipated Hiring Date: April 3, 2023

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Work Hours: 40 hours

This is a grant-funded position that ends 6/30/2026

General Function

This role supports the City of Charlotte employees in defining their career paths and then pursuing training and education opportunities at Central Piedmont to get them on their selected path.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for assisting the City of Charlotte employees to define their career paths and then identifying community college programs and/or training that meets their career goals.

2. Serve as liaison to the City of Charlotte and Central Piedmont to collaborate and share best practices for upskilling and reskilling employees. 

3. Maintain high-quality and professional partnerships with city employees across all departments. 

4. Facilitate workplace readiness workshops for participants. 

5. Provide career navigation coaching services to the City of Charlotte employees in various industries and occupations. 

6. Collaborate with city employees to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment in Central Piedmont programs. 

7. Leverage workforce development programs, such as O*Net, to support the employee’s efforts to get on a career pathway in collaboration with the City of Charlotte guidelines and the Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration. 

8. Coordinate events to promote awareness of career pathways in various city departments. 

9. Follow a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with employees and department human resource managers. 

10. Assist with college course registration targeting career pathways, transfer, and two-year degree-bound employees. 

11. Maintain accurate and adequate records. 

12. Provide information to college personnel and city managers regarding course needs for employees. 

13. Responsible for knowledge of information related to community colleges, universities, veteran benefits as well as information related to community workforce development resources to provide employees with timely information and guidance to assist employees in making informed career decisions. 

14. Provide supportive interventions to help employees succeed in college courses and promote the completion of credentials. 

15. Track semester-to-semester completion and employee eligibility to remain in Tuition Prepayment Program. 

16. Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

17. Provide excellent customer service.
