Minimum Qualifications

A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from a regionally accredited institution and two or more years of experience in clinical dentistry practice is required. Must hold a current license to practice Dentistry in North Carolina. Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills are required. Proficient with commonly used computer software required.

Preferred Qualifications

Instruction in educational theory and techniques; knowledge of Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA); post-secondary teaching experience; and bilingual are preferred.

Position Description

The Clinical Dentist/Instructor provides clinical, lab, and classroom instruction for both the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs. Responsibilities include evaluation of medical health histories; clinical consultative, referral, and diagnostic services; administration of local anesthesia; and performing general dental services in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting clinical settings. The Clinical Dentist/Instructor will serve as the dental department emergency and first aid coordinator; assist in the maintenance of lab and clinical equipment and supplies. Additional responsibilities include curricula development, compliance, and evaluation; participate in required special events including faculty meetings, orientation, graduation, recruitment activities, and planning processes. The Clinical Dentist/Instructor must adherence to achieving learning outcomes, instruction of students using innovative instructional strategies, submittal of reports in an accurate and timely manner, student advisement, and teaching 15-22 contact hours per semester.
