Minimum Qualifications

The Purpose
Responsible for creating an environment in clinical and lab settings that facilitates learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. Facilitate learner development and socialization of values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill the role of an associate degree nurse. Collaborates with full-time faculty to formulate program outcomes and curricular changes that reflect contemporary healthcare trends. Prepares nursing graduates to function effectively in the health care environment. Knowledgeable about the educational environment within nursing practice and recognize how political, institutional, social and economic forces impact their role and forms the cornerstone for their participation in advisory committee meetings to address health care and educational needs locally, regionally and state-wide.

9 Month Employee's pay will be spread over a 12 month period

Examples of Duties

What You'll be Doing

  • This position primarily instructs Associate Degree Nursing students in the clinical setting to meet program needs.
  • Utilize a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in the clinical and lab settings as well as all domains of learning.
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate records for the course.
  • Assists in the maintenance of program approval, total program evaluation and program accreditation.
  • Participates in recruitment and marketing activities for the Associate Degree Nursing program and College.
  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additionally

Assists Director of Nursing:

  • Facilitates communication between students and instructors within the course leading to early problem resolution and mutual understanding.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting onboarding requirements for clinical affiliate sites, including immunization requirements, drug screens and background checks.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor in Nursing or a Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution. (Master’s preferred) Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.

Experience
2 years, or the equivalent, of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.

Skills and the Know-How
Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. Per NCBON rules, this preparation may be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses,
  • Completion of a certificate program in nursing education,
  • Nine semester hours of education coursework,
  • National certification in nursing education; or
  • Documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contract hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval include content in the faculty role within the curriculum implementation, objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population and expectations of student and faculty performance.
  • Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

Other Related Skills: Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, superb math skills, and a commitment to safety. Proficiency using technology that includes, but is not limited to database systems, college email and website, web-based computer applications associated with the position. Must be able to meet eligibility requirements from the assigned clinical agency as they relate to immunization requirements, criminal background checks and/or drug testing.

Physical Demands
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
