Minimum Qualifications

Education:   High School Diploma or equivalent.  

Experience: One-year of teaching experience
                      Working knowledge of MSDS Standards and OSHA guidelines
                      Cleaning experience and cleaning equipment experience
                      Experience with floor cleaning machines

Preferred Qualifications

Education:   Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a comparable field.

Experience: Teaching experience in the Community College System 

Position Description

Under the direction of Dean of Prison Programs, teaches assigned class loads; evaluates student work, prepares courses, attends regular staff meetings for a period of thirty-five (35) hours per weeks and performs other duties as needed. Instructors are accountable for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the affairs of the Mountain View Correctional Facility and Mayland Community College.  Instructors perform normal duties associated with the education of inmates, excluding any and/or all correctional officer duties:

  • Teaches assigned class loads 
  • Provides classroom and course management in a manner that is consistent with appropriate professional conduct 
  • Utilizes methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to the fulfillment of course goals and objectives 
  • Furnishes all data and reports in a timely manner as may be required by the Economic & Workforce Division (EWD) using appropriate forms and formats 
  • Develops and maintains syllabi for courses and provides copies to the EWD and provides a copy to the students the first week of class
  • Maintains accurate class rosters and submits same in the manner and at times required by the Dean 
  • Attends staff meetings and workshops as scheduled 
  • Actively participates in the staff evaluation process 
  • Requests leave two weeks prior to needed absence if possible 
  • Carries out special assignments at the request of the Dean 
  • Reviews and recommends textbooks, reference materials, software, audio visual aids, and learning resources for classroom use 
  • Recommends curriculum revisions and modifications to supervisor 
  • Assists in determining budget needs for program and recommends purchases of equipment and supplies when appropriate 
  • Mentors new instructors as assigned by the supervisor 
  • Assists the Dean in developing semester course schedules 
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through reading professional publications and attending workshops and conferences as appropriate 
  • Assists in areas outside the classroom which would enhance student/inmate interest and knowledge.
