Minimum Qualifications

  • A.A.S. in machining technology or related manufacturing field.
  • Three years of working experience in manufacturing.
  • Professional experience setting up and operating CNC milling/turning machines.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical prints.
  • Experience in use of precision measurement equipment.
  • Fluency in FANUC (G&M code) programming
  • Fluency in CAD/CAM software such as Autodesk Inventor, Mastercam or similar solid modeling program.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related applied/manufacturing technologies degree areas 
  • Teaching experience in a community college setting.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Previous knowledge and experience with National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).

Position Description

Alamance Community College (ACC) is seeking a Department Head to lead the Computer-Integrated Machining Department. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to student access and success. Requirements include the ability to teach fundamental and advanced concepts, skills, and knowledge in the machining technology field. Topics include print reading, shop math, precision measurement, manual and CNC machine basic setup and operation. Position may include day end evening course loads.  Candidate must also be willing to teach in the high school dual-enrollment career and college promise program.
 
 The Department Head of the Computer-Integrated Machining Department is a full-time faculty member who is a content specialist in a specific area of instruction and is expected to demonstrate a visibly active role in maintaining the assigned content area in a comprehensive, current, and responsible manner. The Instructor reports to and has responsibilities delegated by the Dean of Industrial Technologies.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  1. Schedule classes in cooperation with the dean and according to the program's progression plan and College's scheduling pattern (unless otherwise approved), and in consideration of student needs and campus locations. Assign faculty to sections, in accordance with College credentialing and scheduling processes. 
  2. Develop and manage program budget(s) and purchases in cooperation with the Dean. 
  3. Maintain appropriate inventories for the Computer-Integrated Machining Department.
  4. Participate in the selection, orientation, and mentoring of new faculty members, in accordance with College processes and requirements. 
  5. Work with the college’s Information Systems department to keep the program’s computer lab up-to-date.  
  6. Maintain a working relationship with Alamance-Burlington School System and the Career and College Promise cohort.    
  7. Develop a recruitment plan and participate in organized activities to recruit students and market the program to increase enrollment. 
  8. In cooperation with the dean, monitor the performance of faculty members. Activities include but are not limited to conducting performance evaluations, classroom observations, and course reviews (as applicable), and reviewing the Student Evaluation of Instruction survey results.
  9. Achieve industry accreditation for the Computer-Integrated Machining program. 
  10. In accordance with College guidelines, take appropriate action to address and resolve any faculty or student issues that arise.
  11. Process faculty requests, forms, reports, etc., as applicable 
  12. Coordinate faculty substitutes due to instructor absence.
  13. Conduct program outcomes planning and assessment, which includes annual planning and program review deliverables.
  14. Coordinate and conduct faculty meetings and advisory committee meetings (including the recruitment and recommendation of committee members).
  15. Make recommendations for curriculum revisions, textbook adoptions and other course materials, library acquisitions, and new course offerings.
  16. Update and maintain course-specific content within program syllabi templates and course templates (within the College's learning management system); Monitor and/or approve faculty edits to syllabus and course content, as applicable.
  17. Perform faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty position description.
